Anwar Jalal Shemza: Panel discussion and book signing11 March 2016 Tate Britain, London
A panel discussion reflects on the life and career of Anwar Jalal Shemza at Tate Britain, London on Friday, 11 March, 6.30pm.
Taking place within the artist's BP Spotlight display at Tate Britain, this discussion – chaired by Amna Malik – features panellists including Aphra Shemza, Iftikhar Dadi and Shezad Dawood.
Discussion topics will include: How did Shemza’s experience of migration and diaspora affect his painting? What was his relationship with the work of other artists of his era? Where can his influence be found today?
Copies of Anwar Jalal Shemza, the first comprehensive monograph on the artist edited by Dadi, will also be available. The event is followed by a drinks reception and book signing with Dadi.

About the panelists:
Iftikhar Dadi is an artist and an associate professor in the Department of History of Art at Cornell University, Ithaca. Shezad Dawood is an artist based in London whose work includes painting, sculpture and video. Amna Malik is a senior lecturer in History and Theory of Art at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, London. Aphra Shemza is an artist based in London who works with multi-media, light art, kinetic sculpture and interactive installation.
