This editioned monograph takes visual obstruction as its guiding thread to highlight John Hilliard’s diverse engagement with the photographic medium.

Using innovative processes, Hilliard’s focus on the monochrome ‘blanks out’ the picture to undermine the photograph’s usual expectations and draw the viewer’s attention to the context of its creation.

The signed monograph includes a survey of Hilliard’s continuous challenge to photographic convention by Duncan Wooldridge, accompanied by texts by the artist and over 50 illustrations.

Contained within a custom-made slipcase, the edition also includes the digital print Construction (No.1) (2008), which is characteristic of the interruptive monochrome at the centre of many of Hilliard’s works.
