Following the acquisition of a cache of damaged film publicity portraits, John Stezaker has produced a new series of collages which create, out of a mixture of the screen personae, new figures which, despite their hybridity, take on an imaginary life of their own. Caught in the netherworld of the media image these characters (the product of an unholy marriage) exert an unsettling power of attraction. A large group of these new collages are illustrated here for the first time, accompanied by an essay by Cecilia Järdemar.
